Have you ever perused the pictures of fashion week runways? Most fashion shows leave me baffled. I usually think to myself, what is going on with that outfit? But I am learning to look closely and see how these creations translate into current fashion trends. I am definitely not the most fashionable person you’ll meet, but I want to be! And I want to know what is going to be stylish as I plan my wardrobe for spring. I have so many ideas!!
Here is a summary of what looks to be on-trend:
- Floral and striped fabrics
- Nautical inspired garments
- Bare shoulders & sheer fabrics
- Punk inspired fashions
- Pajamas as clothing
- Skirts that hit at mid-calf or floor length
- Straight lines and tailored clothing
I’m loving the spring color palate, though I don’t think I can get away with the baby blue or the pale pink. I am excited to sew up a pleather jacket! Have you seen the January issue of Burda Style? There is a bomber jacket pattern I can’t wait to make, and even though I will NEVER be on board with wearing pajamas as daytime clothing, there is also a nice pajama pattern.
I doubt I have time to sew up a pea coat, but I love how they look. One item I am going to have to make is a tie-front blouse, though how I will look in one remains to be seen.
Anyway friends, here you go. This morning as I was looking through the pictures of spring fashion week, I took some notes and created this cheat sheet so that you too, can create garments that are on the up-and-up. Enjoy!
