When I was pregnant with my third child, I had to try hard to eat enough protein to stay healthy. I developed pre-eclampsia with my first baby and my doctor advised me to keep a high protein diet as a precaution against developing it again. I wasn’t too keen on eating much meat, so I tried a few protein powders and found this one that was surprisingly not disgusting.
When my kids grew up from their cute and trusting phase of babyhood and turned into full-fledged kitchen critics, it felt like a miracle when they drank this breakfast shake without complaint. My son even asks for it everyday for breakfast, and I have to admit that it’s probably the most healthy thing they’ll eat all day.
Here’s the recipe:
- 1+1/2 cups Milk (or more for a thinner shake).
- 1/2 cup Frozen Blueberries
- 2 Ripe Bananas
- 1 Cup Frozen Spinach Leaves
- 1/2 Cup Peas
- 1 Tablespoon Ground Flaxseed
- 1 Scoop Spiru-tein Powder
Blend well. Serves 3.
The Spiru-tein powder comes in a LOT of different flavors. I tend to rotate between vanilla, banana and strawberry flavors. I can’t get too crazy though, my kids have extra-fancy taste buds that will detect even the slightest change to their food.
