Pattern: Made for Mermaids Mama Isabel Top
Time to Make: Hour and a half
Material: 1 yard of cotton spandex blend knit from Girl Charlie
Total Cost to Make: $4.00
The other day I was cruising the internet while my daughter was napping and before I even knew what I was doing, I had purchased a bargain lot of fabric. Man. I have a fabric problem. I don’t need more fabric!
The bargain lot was discounted because of slight flaws, and including shipping, it came out to four dollars a yard. I couldn’t resist! This is how I can make clothes cheaper than store bought – jump on the bargains when you find them!
Luckily when it arrived, it was love! This fabric was one of the pretties from the lot and I knew it just had to be sewn up into the new Mama Isabel wrap top from Made for Mermaids. I have a party to attend this weekend and now I have something to wear!
The pattern says it is drafted for a person who is 5’5″ tall. Technically speaking I should have added a half inch in length to the bodice, but I didn’t, and I think the fit is fine. Maybe it’s because the fabric has four-way stretch?
The top came together fairly easily. I should have read the directions all the way through before cutting out the pattern and I would have saved myself a bit of trouble. I ended up having to piece together the ties because I didn’t have any fabric left over that was long enough. After I finished though, I felt like the ties could have been shorter.
I’ve never worn a wrap dress or top, but my sister loves them so I went ahead and tried out the pattern even though I wasn’t sure if the dress would look good on me. It turns out my sister was right and I love the fit. I plan on making this again in dress length with sleeves and I’m sure it will go together quicker next time.
