It’s been ninety-four days since the shelter in place order was given and the world shut down. Things have loosened up here in California, but the Covid cases are rapidly climbing, so I expect things could shut down again soon.
Luckily we’ve had a lot to keep us busy with new homestead projects and our summer garden (and distance learning. Ugg. I’m so glad that’s over for now!)
Our strawberries have been amazing this year and are trying to take over everything. I’ve already canned a batch of strawberry jam and we’ve enjoyed some delicious strawberry shortcake, and strawberry milkshakes too.
The summer season hasn’t even officially begun yet, but I already pulled up the last of the peas yesterday. I was only able to put up five pounds of peas this time, but hopefully I’ll have better luck in the fall.
My husband built me six new planter boxes last February and it feels like I could use six more!
Here’s what I’ve got growing;
Bonny Best Tomatoes
I’m really excited about the sorghum. If I can figure out how to juice it, it can be boiled down into syrup. 😋
Along with our expanding garden, we’re raising turkeys, chickens to butcher, a new flock of laying hens, meat rabbits and two ducks. It feels really nice to stay busy and know that we have what we need right here in the yard.
Until next time friends! I hope you’re staying safe and sane in your neck of the woods. ❤️
